The power of Instagram and the importance of photographs. According to many tour operators, the famous photographic social network is the most powerful means to determine the success of a tourist destination. It can suggest up-and-coming destinations for those people who need new directions and it also can modify tourists’ habits.
“It’s not uncommon that a client shows us a picture of a place found on Instagram. They ask to follow the same itinerary or to do the same experience – says Eleonora Sasso, marketing department of CartOrange -. Photos on Instagram are seen as spontaneous”.
So, travellers still see that social network, altough it is full of sponsored posts, as a reliable social network. Probably this is the reason why it is the perfect place for travel bloggers, travel influencers, travel photographers etc.
Another recent research, carried out by the travel website Booking.com, shows how social networks, and Instagram in particular, are important in the decision making process of travellers. The researchers interviewed about 19,000 people from all over the world. One-third of the respondents (32%) told that they usually have more fun if the hotel is ideal to take some pictures to publish on Instagram.
Moreover, before booking hotels, travellers have a look at pictures on the social profiles or websites of the hotels. 40% of the respondents admitted that, in their choice, they have been influenced by pictures they have seen. 67% of them underlined the importance to see the bedroom, 43% the bathroom.
